Problems with Occlusion
25-50% of the adult population suffers from problems with occlusion. The reason can be malocclusion, trauma in the area or jaw joint, face or cervical spine, repeated gnawing of teeth or biting them together or muscular tension in the neck and jaw area, restrictions of movement in the upper neck, irritation in the sympathetic nervous system, erosion of the jaw joint or systemic diseases like arthritis. Very often the pain in the area of jaw joint comes with tinnitus, headache and pain in the neck and shoulder area. Psychological strain (stress) is the fundamental reason for the major part in the tendencies of biting teeth together and gnawing. Read more related to stress here.
When healing a biting related problem, we focus on in addition to the local muscles and joint structures, healing especially the neck and upper back. By releasing tension in the upper neck and cranium, a jaw joint nervous system is improved and thus radiating pain is reduced. The functioning of the autonomic nervous system is being influenced especially when the problem is clearly related to stress.
